I have worked with the most difficult children and families for 25 years.
I spent 25+ years working in the areas of child services involvement, adoption, probation, military family issues, and unresolved childhood trauma. I have a great passion for my work and enjoy working closely with my clients.
As an expert in trauma and attachment, I strive to connect emotionally to your story and provide the right resources and support to help you get relief and meet your goals.
My passion, children and families in crisis. My practice no longer takes divorce cases. Instead, I focus on attachment injuries, children and adults with child protective services involvement, foster care, abandonment or legal involvement.
Many clients say I bring a level of calm to the room, along with my subtle and consistent drive to meet your needs. As your partner and guide, I come along side you and your family to create sustainable goals with realistic interventions and steps that we can all measure to see real progress.
Shelby Meiliki goes by Shelby. She is a three-year-old English Springer Spaniel with Liver and white coloring. Her fur is thin and soft. She is in training to become a fully certified therapy dog by the end of December 2022. She is ready to test. When she puts on her vest, she knows it is time to work. Shelby is quite calm and friendly. She is always happy to see her returning clients. Shelby is obedient and greets her patients with a calm but warm seated welcome. Shelby prefers to either sit between a couple who are struggling or under the therapist’s desk until she is needed. She knows her job quite well. A canine's sense of smell is 100 times greater than a human. This sense of smell helps canines navigate the world around them. Shelby naturally wants to comfort individuals that are under duress. When she senses or rather sniffs a hormonal change in a client, a stress reaction, she comforts them on many different levels. She may just sit nearby, lean on their leg, lick a hand or maybe even jump in someone’s lap if they call her up. She is also well trained in basic obedience and fetching. Some of the younger clients enjoy the reward of playing fetch or seek out the toy hidden by a client. She also is great at helping younger children learn delayed gratification, turn taking and speaking clearly and boldly as in being commanded to do certain tasks. Shelby happily completes those tasks.
Shelby enjoys going on long drives with her head out the window. She loves chasing things in the wild. Especially lizards! She really enjoys a good solid nap. She works as a dog trainer as well and helps other dogs who are fearful. She shows them love and sensitivity.
I provide coaching and support. Together we will work through traumatic, regressive, and unhealthy coping behaviors. We will also learn better ways to tolerate those annoying or overwhelming stresses that trigger reactive behavior.
Forgiveness and tolerance free us from living the emotional roller coaster, creating feelings of peace and relief. In therapy, I teach how to remove stress and add healthy coping skills. I teach how to control your fear, sadness, and anger that cripple your desire for success.
I teach the stress model, improving relationship connection and understanding how we relate to ourselves and others. Your hard work will be rewarded with a new sense of self, empowerment, and confidence through this approach.
I teach real, actionable solutions to the most difficult of situations. Expect immediate results for your efforts.
HI I am Kyla a therapist intern. I am finishing a Masters Degree at Capella University to pursue my dream as an Licensed Professional Counselor.
I have ten years of experience in the behavioral health field. I had the pleasure of treating Autism Spectrum Disorders using applied behavior analysis. I helped ensure the safety of children and families affected by Child Protective Services. More recently I honed my couples and family intervention strategies implementing real solutions to reduce overall family stress while working as a community mental health interventionist with children, couples and families.
I am dedicated to my community and have a passion for helping active duty and veteran single parent and all types of families cope with various life struggles.
Something about me, I am compassionate, empathetic, and a great listener and communicator who is genuinely curious to get to know her clients and help them find solutions to their problems. I also learned to speak Chinese through the Defense Language Institute and graduated with honors.
Outside of work, I love being active with my three dogs, crocheting, and painting. You can often find me at a yoga class or reading a good book.
